Quest for Competence

Quest of competence.

As a self taught web developer who switched career about 2 years ago I have been trying to keep updated with what is happening in the realm of web app development.

Seems like movement is constant and I'm always behind.

Also recently I have been working on projects that are not overlapping in terms of tech stack. And this makes me feel like I get to dive in one thing just to forget it a month or two latter.

Then over last holidays I got Claude Max subscription and created working PoC Ai assistant for a specific use case, and PWA to track my progress with kettlebell training. And all of this with barely opening code editor.

It got me thinking.

And then I heard Casey Muratori talking about his view of AI in coding - "... AI is just kind of it will always be useless to me. Like I physically can't get what i want out of programming if an AI is involved, because literally what the AI is doing is it's robbing me of the experience that I wanted to have and the knowledge that I wanted to get..."

And somehow It clicked to me. That I love programming, I love learning and understanding. I want to be better than I'm currently are.

I can't optimise for future that is unknown, but I can pursue my interest and get better as a programmer at the same time. And I believe that this could be the right approach to fight the FOMO and progress in my profession.

So I have decided to embark on a journey to become competent.

I'll do my best to become more than a glue coder who can throw around some words whose meaning I don't understand. And this is where I'm going to document my learnings.
